Fifth Blog Google Classroom on Our National Dress

 Class: IV

Subject: Social Studies

Topic: Our National Dress

Google classroom is a free web service developed by Google for schools that aims to simply creating, distributing and grading assignments. The primary purpose of Google classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teacher and students. Google classroom can benefit my students as a way of learning through paperless. In today's time due to Covid 19 pandemic students are asked to stay at home and as a learning the teacher from all around the world are using Google classroom as one of the way to teach and I think this is the best tool we teacher can use to continue teaching and learning.

Google Classroom

Step 1: Sign in to Gmail account then on the right corner I clicked on Google apps and Scrolled down till I found Google class room then I clicked on that.

Step 2: I clicked on the plus sign at the right corner, and then I clicked to create class. after that I filled up every required information one by one. I created class for grade IV students based on Social Studies subject.

Step 3: To add the students and co-tutor, I have clicked on people option and I invited both co-tutor and students through their email. I have invited one co-tutor and two students. I can also invite my students through sharing the class code.

Step 4: I have changed the theme, to change that I have clicked on stream and selected the theme of my choice.

Step 5: To make aware of what they are going to learn in the class, I made use of announcement dialog box therefore in my first announcement I wrote welcome note as well as information to make them aware of the subject.

Step 6: To upload assignment, question and materials, I clocked on class work and create and uploaded required materials.

Step 7: To upload materials I have clicked on "materials" and I have to write title, instruction description for particular reading materials. Finally I clicked on attached file option and uploaded the materials.

Step 8: To create quiz assignment, I clicked on quiz assignment option; I have to write title, instruction or description. I clicked to create option to complete assigning.

I have framed quiz question on the topic "Our National Dress" (5 questions)

Instructions for the use of content-based materials

I will be using the content-based material i.e. the Google Classroom throughout the three stages of the lesson that are lesson introduction, lesson development and lesson conclusion. For this Google classroom I will be uploading weekly plan of teaching as well as required materials when ever students need. I will even assign work, assignment, and let them do quiz. I will also allow my students to submit their work paperless and I will even evaluate their work and provide grade based on their quality of work. As a teacher I might have to take leave then I can cover up missed class by uploading learning activity on today's topic. Instead of simply wasting time, I can provide required materials and make them do few activities which they can do. From my point of view if I create Google classroom, I don't have to explain my lesson through face to face. I think it is advantage during this particular time (pandemic). For that reason even if we teacher can have face to face teaching using Google classroom to provide enough materials and for easy evaluation of their work I think we teacher must use Google Classroom as an extra platform.

Fourth Blog Video Tutorial on Floating and Sinking

Class: IV

Subject: Science

Topic: Floating and Sinking

In this blog, I will be focusing on teaching the class four students about floating and sinking under the subject, Science. I have used the video tutorial on floating and sinking as the ICT tool for teaching my students. I was taught on using the software such as Camtasia Studio in the class in order to record the screen and power point presentation and also to edit various videos. I employed the 8th version of Camtasia Studio to make a video tutorial based on my topic. It was very fascinating and a new encounter for me to survey the features accessible in the software. In the following write up I will be telling on how I created the video tutorial and how to use the material in the class.

Creation of the teaching material

If I talk about creating the video tutorial on floating and sinking is firstly I think out on designing a power point presentation. I referred the teacher’s manual guide to range the content of the topic appropriately in the presentation. After finishing with all these brain storming and mind mapping on the topic, I begin preparing the PowerPoint presentation. As usual, the presentation was prepared on a blank slide where I wrote greetings for my video tutorial as ‘Welcome to the video tutorial’ and followed by the title of the lesson as ‘Floating and Sinking’ on another blank slide. I also made sure to include the class level and subject. I used the wood type of as a background for all the slides. I used the text font Arial Black for topic/sub-topic and Arial for other text throughout the slides.

I mentioned the main objective of the lesson that was to teach the students on how floating and sinking happens/ occur by using available materials. I thought that just simply reflecting the instructions on the slides will not be enough so I worked on coming up with self-made video for the demonstration. I gathered all the required materials to drop in the water as to see whether it floats or sinks. It was not comfortable to make the video all by self so I had to seek help from my sister to be a camera man. I shot the video while demonstrating the floating and sinking. After that I point out the overview of the lesson using the SmartArt graphic (i.e. intense effect). To insert that intense effect graphic, I went to the Insert first then selected the SmartArt tools from which I utilized the intense effect graphic.  The rest of the slides, I wrote the main points with related to the topic. When comes to the definition of floating and sinking it was little challenging for me to portray the information in one slide. I used short demonstration video to make the definition understandable.

After having prepared the video I insert the video in the Camtasia after the activity instruction has been provided. I used the real materials for the demonstration of floating and sinking (which was made by myself) in the presentation in order convey the concrete concept of floating and sinking. To make the concept clearer, I insert the images of the materials found in our locality. The images were not at all borrowed or downloaded but it was solely captured by me. These were all about how I prepared the power presentation. My power point presentation has total of fourteen slides.

When done with creating the power point presentation, I had to record the narration of the presentation by showing my faceI used the video editing software called Camtasia Studio. The Camtasia studio software that I used was the eighth version of it, which was quite advanced and latest too. The software was interlinked with power point presentation so I did not have to go separately and open the software. Instead I went to the Add-Ins pane in the power presentation only where I had the option to record the narration of slides. Before I recorded the narration, I selected the icon of record audio and record camera. I had my script all set for the narration and I had the final narration of the presentation after several trials. Then I edited the recording in the software. I found the software very productive for video editors.

I made use of all the features provided by the Camtasia software. I edited my video by cutting the unwanted parts of the video. I split the video when I wanted to add some transitions and video. I made use of call outs at last for my name in the video tutorial. After doing the necessary editions of the video, I selected the option produce and share to produce the finalized video. When I clicked the produce and share option, a dialog box appeared where I renamed the video file of my choice and selected the location of the file too. So these are all about how I could come up with a simple and effective video tutorial on rain and rain gauge.

Activity: There is one activity for the students. Instructions for the activities are clearly directed in the video tutorial.

Instructions for the use of content-based material

I will be using the content-based material i.e. the video tutorial on floating and sinking throughout the three stages of the lesson that are lesson introduction, lesson development and lesson conclusion. Instead of me lecturing everything in the classroom, the video tutorial will serve all the feature of the lesson. The video tutorial incorporate the introduction of the lesson by connecting the prior knowledge of the students with the topic, the clear description on the contents of the lesson, some activities for the students and the conclusion of the lesson.

The video tutorial will be showed to the entire students in a classroom; where students will be able to grasp the concept of Floating and sinking. The short video for demonstration was using of locally available materials which is the part of the video tutorial will guide the students to identify the different materials at home and also complete the activities.  Moreover the combination of the texts, pictures and video in my video tutorial will surely thrilled my students to learn. The video tutorial can also be used by the students to watch it at home whenever they want to. Students can use the feature of forward, backward, rewind, pause and resume when watching the video tutorial.

Through the video tutorial, I expect my students of class four to:

Name at least five objects that will sink and five objects that will float correctly after the teaching.

Design an experiment to check which objects float and which objects sink after teacher’s explanation.

·     In order to make proper use of this content based-material, both the teacher and students must be ready with a projector and a laptop in a classroom. Probably the IT labs/rooms can be used to exhibit the video to the students due to easy accessibility of the projectors and computers in the room. Without the presence of a projector, it will be difficult to exhibit the video tutorial to all the students. Projector will help to present the video very clearly and visibly.

Third Blog Polygon

Class: III

Subject: Mathematics

Topic: Polygon

In this blog, I will be writing on the teaching of the topic “Polygon” from the textbook of Mathematics, grade three. Particularly I went with the topic on ‘Polygon’. Among many tools of ICT, I chose to make appropriate use of the Power Point Presentation graphics to teach about the Polygon shape to children of lower primary, grade three.

I believed that the PowerPoint Presentation on Polygon shapes will help my children in engaging themselves in multiple learning styles. It will increase their visual impact of polygon shapes, improve the audience impact, enrich curriculum with interdisciplinary, and break out topics into understandable points.

Creation of the teaching material

I created the PowerPoint Presentation by making best use of all the features and tools available in it. It was easier for me to integrate graphics and animations into my slides to illustrate the key points of the topic.  I made sure that color combinations were put into consideration while preparing every slide show using PowerPoint. I used good color combination that made the text readable. Some text were found to be read clearly and easily when good combinations were used while some text were found to be bad for those color blindness  when bad color combinations were used. I kept good contrast between the text and the background. Background of the PowerPoint slides was very important to teaching and learning. Since I was preparing the slides for grade three children, I used the background according to their standard and interests. Usually children of lower primary are fond of different colors. So I made use of attractive colors. In case of text font, I made use of two different fonts differentiating the topics and the body parts. I used different font color whenever I wanted to highlight an important point in my slides rather than Italics, Bolds or underlining. To create the Polygon shapes, I used the various shapes available in the PowerPoint and used fill color to make the shapes colorful, bright and attractive. Making use of the different colors for the shapes will help me to gain the attention of the learners. I added different animations in texts as well to make it interesting, lively and attractive for the viewers. As a teacher while preparing the PowerPoint slides, I was conscious of the use of slide layout tools.  I used bullet to state my points rather than continuous prose. The PowerPoint Presentation on Polygon shapes will help me to convey the meaning of Polygon shapes, examples of Polygon shapes, features of Polygon shapes, types and name of polygon to the children. The PowerPoint Presentation will serve as content-based materials for me in teaching the topic polygon shapes to my children of lower primary grade three. To see whether my children have understood the topic taught through PowerPoint Presentation or not, I included a very simple activity for the children.

Activity: Sorting the polygon

Q. Which of the following Polygons are concave and which are convex? Name the polygon.

Instructions for the use of content-based material

Teaching learning materials in teaching are crucial to the success of student achievement. To integrate ICT in teaching material is not as easy as one think. I could not think of any other tool of ICT to develop my teaching resource on the topic ‘Polygon Shapes’. I ended up creating a PowerPoint Presentation on Polygon shapes by making full use of all the features available in the PowerPoint. I developed the material with a set of objectives in my mind. Through the presentation, I want to ensure my children of grade three to:

·         learn the concept of polygon

·         know the features of polygon shape

·         know the features of not a polygon shape

·          know the types and name of polygon

·         know the spelling of polygon shapes correctly

·         relate their live with the polygon shape and make connections

I will use the material throughout the lesson i.e. lesson introduction, lesson development and lesson conclusion. Through the first slide of the presentation, children will be introduced with the topic of the lesson as ‘Polygon’. The picture of some basic shapes on the first slide along with the topic will give the children a very crystal clear concept on the polygon. Starting from the second till Tenth slide of the presentation, children will be taught on the main contents of the topic. They will be taken to the lesson development. They will learn about the definition of polygon along with its features, types and name cited with examples. Children will be able to see the shape with its description on the slide and it will not create confusion among the shapes in children. Children will also perform an activity after the content has been conveyed to them. The designed activity will help the children to further enhance their understating on Polygon. The final slide of the presentation will be used for lesson conclusion where I will ask some children to recapitulate the key points learnt and give examples of some polygon shapes.

Second Blog Season

Class: IV

Subject: Social Studies

Topic: Seasons

In this blog, I will be writing on the teaching of the topic “Seasons” from the textbook of Social Studies, grade four. For me mainly, it is important for the students to know very well about the change of seasons in every year. I felt it is important because every child experience the seasonal change in their daily life. Therefore I have decided to integrate one of the ICT tools in this topic and convey the content to my dear students.

There are many ICT tools which I can use in order to teach the topic to the students. Recently in my ICT lesson, I learnt about creating simulation in Microsoft power point presentation. Though it was exacting, it activate me to create a simulation and use it in one of my blogs. This is the only reason I will be using simulation to teach about the seasons to my students. Simulations represent a reality within which students interact. I believed that the simulation on Seasons will promote the use of critical and evaluative thinking. Because they are ambiguous, they encourage students to view the implications of a scenario. The situation feels real and thus leads to more engaging interaction by learners. Simulations promote concept of attainment through experiential practice.

Creation of the teaching material

I have designed a short simulation in power point presentation on the topic “Seasons”. This learning activity is mainly designed for class four students to help them understand the concept better. For this activity, I have used various animations using image, clip art, GIF, background scene and colors so that students will be able to visualize their learning. Most of the textbook we can see most of the pictures are distorted using black and white color. Because of that sometimes it’s difficult for students to get all the information precisely. For that reason, I have created this learning activity with the aim of giving clear concepts about the new topic to the students. While creating this short simulation video clip, I inserted all the necessary animations.

Activity: Description about favorite seasons

From the four seasons, choose one of your favorite seasons and write about three paragraphs reasoning out why the chosen seasons of your is your favorite and what things happen in that seasons? You all will use Microsoft Office Word Document and submitted by mail.

Gmail address: ugyendema1911@gmail.com

Instructions for the use of content-based material

I will use the material during lesson development. After having introduced the topic to the students, I will use the simulation for conveying the content during lesson development. Instead of me lecturing on the four seasons, I will make best of the simulation created as an instructional tool in my classroom. Simulation will give the name of four seasons. For each season, they would be given some description of about few lines. Students will also perform an activity after the content has been conveyed to them. The activity will be instructed to the students through the simulation only after the explanation. The students need to carefully watch the simulation with full attention. The designed activity will help the children to further enhance their understating on seasons.

First Blog Video on Weather

 Class II

Subject : English

Topic for Reader: Weather

Video is also one of the ICT tools to convey the lesson be it for the classroom teaching learning or be it for the public. the video will help the video watcher to comprehend the video and will be also help them to read if the video is educational reading video. In this activity of ICT integration I have uploaded a reader with the voice over reading the text as it will be more convenient for the students to comprehend the text and  students will be able to do the activity assigned to them through online. After watching the video or listening to the reader read by teacher, students will be able to do the given a task that is to attempt a online quiz to check their understanding about the text.

Creation of the teaching material

If I talk about creating the voice-over reading video on weather is firstly I think about the grade level and subject to create the video. I thought of class II readers in English subject. Immediately I visited the REC website. Opening the website I clicked Textbook and Manuals, choose the grade II and English subject. There were various reader books. After thoroughly going through all the readers for that particular grade (II), finally I came to conclude that “Weather book 6” reader book is interesting and students also have the prior knowledge about the weather. Then I downloaded that particular reader. I started to screenshot the reader, page by page accordingly. I used my phone in build screen-capture to record the text while I read it. I kept trying for 2-3 times and finally was able to have a perfect voice-over reading video. Therefore I inserted the video in the blog page through the use of insert video in blog.

For the quiz question as a follow-up activity, firstly I designed ten MCQ roughly in the book. Then I login my Gmail account and went to Google apps. Under the Google apps I choose forms. Then I open a forms change the quiz title as Weather Quiz Question. I have also change the theme header of the quiz. I started to type the instruction and then the designed question accordingly and copy its link to the blog. Given below are the two activities designed for main activity and follow-up activity with clear instructions.

Activity 1: Listening voice-over reading

Activity Instructions:

1.      Students will download this video.

2.      Listen to the reading carefully.

3.      It will take 5 minutes.

4.      After that attempted the online quiz.

Voice-over video

Activity 2: Online Quiz

The activity for this reading is to do an online quiz to check the understanding of the students about the text. The quiz will be prepared in the Google Doc as Google Doc being a learning tool and testing knowledge. The format of the quiz question has been given below. the instruction are also clearly mentioned below.

Activity instruction:

1.      After listening the Reader (Weather), students will be asked to attempt one online quiz.

2.      There will be ten MCQ.

3.      Students are asked to choose the most appropriate answer.

4.      For this quiz, students will be given 30 minutes.

th   Click here to attempt the quiz Click here

Instructions for the use of content-based material

I will be using the content-based material i.e. the voice-over reading video on weather throughout the two stages of the lesson that are lesson development and lesson conclusion. Instead of students struggling to read the text and have difficulties comprehending the text, the video will help students to comprehend the text and pronounce the new words correctly. The reason for uploading a video is to let students learn with equity or in other word keeping in  mind  their learning preference. Some students are auditory learner, where some are visual learner and some of them are kinesthetic learner. To promote the learning to those of learners, the activity is also design accordingly. There are two learning preference involved that is verbal reading is done by teacher to help those auditory learners and text are uploaded to visualize by the visual learners. After that conducting quiz as a follow-up.
